We Have A Huge Range Of Car Rubber Seals In Perth!
Rubber is the unsung hero of the automotive world. Being weather tolerant, as well as highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals, makes rubber the perfect material for seals.
However, the Australian summers are harsh, and rubber puts in the hard yards. Over time, it will deteriorate, and you will need to need to replace it to ensure the components of your vehicle are not compromised.
Whatever you’re looking for, with a comprehensive range of over 8000 renovation and restoration products, Rare Parts is sure to have the seals you require for your specific car make and model.
Rubber Seals
Rubber is flexible, durable and a great insulator, and can be found throughout your vehicle from the tyres to the engine. Weatherstripping refers to the rubber that seals vehicular openings, including door seals, window seals, windscreen seals and boot seals. You’ll also find it on your roof rail, cowl, divisions, and window pillars.
This sealing is integral, ensuring the outside elements do not enter your vehicle – from rain, hail and wind to those unwanted pests (no need for huntsman surprises). Quality rubber sealing will keep your vehicle shut tight.
Door belts, or belt moulding, is located between the upper edge of the car door and the lower part of your window, while the strip of weatherproof rubber keeping your windows going up and down smoothly is known as a bailey channel or window channel. It is designed to keep your windows perfectly wound.
Often, older vehicles and classic cars will have smaller windows located towards the front, and these need vent window seals. Not only do these seals act as a shield to keep passengers safe, but they also keep your vehicle’s interior protected. The tightest seal is achieved through pinch weld rubber seals, ensuring a snug, seamless fit between the door and the jamb.
Many classic and antique automobiles will have rubber bonnet lacing or hood lacing installed on the cowl (although much older vehicles will sometimes use leather).
Over time, exposure to the elements combined with constant opening and closing of your doors, operating your windows and popping the boot will result in the rubber wearing down and slowly losing its properties as a buffer. That’s why regular rubber care is integral to ensure the longevity of your seals. Without maintenance, you may notice wind noise, or water gradually leaking into your car and causing a slew of other issues you don’t want, like rust.
Gaskets
Rubber is also found in your car’s engine bay and provide an essential function as gaskets. Gaskets and rubber seals are the only things preventing leakage, of coolant, motor oil or air from a combustion engine.
The most important of these is the head gasket, absorbing the full brunt of your vehicle’s engine heat and compression. Rubber seals and gaskets prevent gunk from entering your transmission, and your cooling system will likely be using a seal to ensure no liquid leaks.
The sensitive electrical components of a vehicle are protected by rubber tubing –such as your spark plugs – and lights can be mounted with light mounting gaskets.
